NRB Raises Daily Digital Wallet Deposit Limit to 50 Transactions During Festive Season
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has temporarily increased the daily limit for deposits into individual digital wallets from 10 to 50 transactions during Dashain, Tihar and Chhath in 2083. The move aims to facilitate increased digital payments and provide greater convenience to users during the festive season.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced a temporary relaxation of the daily transaction limit for deposits into individual digital wallets ahead of Nepal's major festive celebrations. Under the new provision, individuals will be able to receive deposits through up to 50 transactions per day, compared to the regular limit of 10 transactions. According to the Payment Systems Department of NRB, the temporary arrangement will apply during two specified periods. For Dashain, the revised limit will remain in effect from Ashwin 31 to Kartik 8, 2083. Similarly, the relaxation will be available during Tihar and Chhath from Kartik 21 to Kartik 29, 2083. Under the existing Integrated Directive on Payment Systems, an individual is generally allowed to receive deposits into their digital wallet through a maximum of 10 transactions per day. However, recognising the expected rise in digital payments and financial transactions during the festive season, the central bank has introduced the temporary provision to make wallet services more convenient for users. The increased transaction limit is intended to help individuals receive money more easily during a period when digital payments, transfers and other financial activities typically increase. By allowing up to 50 deposit transactions daily, the measure provides additional flexibility for people who rely on digital wallets for their financial needs during the holidays. NRB has also instructed the concerned payment service providers to maintain records of transactions conducted under the temporary arrangement. They must submit details of both the total number of transactions and the aggregate transaction amount to the central bank's Payment Systems Department for the specified periods. The temporary relaxation applies only during the dates announced by NRB. Outside these periods, the regular limit of 10 deposit transactions per day remains applicable under the existing directive. The decision reflects the central bank's effort to accommodate increased demand for digital payment services during major festivals while continuing to monitor transaction activity through reporting requirements for payment service providers.
