Major Highways to Reopen Before Dashain as Flood and Landslide Repairs Accelerate
The government has stepped up efforts to restore major roads damaged by floods and landslides, aiming to reopen key highways before the Dashain festival.
The government has intensified road restoration efforts across several flood- and landslide-affected districts, with the Department of Roads aiming to reopen major highways before Dashain. Repair and reconstruction works are underway in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, and Gorkha, among other affected areas. Department of Roads spokesperson Shubharaj Neupane said transportation services are expected to reach Dhunche in Rasuwa within the next four to five days. He also said the road toward Mustang is likely to reopen soon. Although road conditions may remain challenging at certain locations, authorities are working to ensure that people can travel home for the festival and that essential food and other supplies can be transported. According to the latest update from Nepal Police, major roads in Rasuwa remain obstructed following the Bhotekoshi River flood on September 10. The Beni-Jomsom road in Myagdi was completely blocked by a landslide on September 26. Meanwhile, one-way traffic has resumed along the Kaligandaki Corridor in Nawalparasi East and the Besisahar-Khangsar road in Manang, although some restrictions continue to remain in place.
