Death Toll in Dewanganj Police Clash Rises to Two
A second injured victim has died while undergoing treatment following the violent clash between police and locals in Dewanganj, Sunsari, as authorities continue investigating the incident.
The death toll from the violent clash between police and locals in Dewanganj, Sunsari, has risen to two after another injured victim died during treatment. Jay Prakash Mehta, 22, of Dewanganj-3, passed away on Thursday while receiving treatment at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar. According to Morang Police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Makendra Kumar Mishra, doctors pronounced Mehta dead at 1:24 p.m. The clash erupted on Sunday night when police opened fire to bring the violent confrontation under control. Eight other people who sustained gunshot injuries remain under treatment at Neuro Hospital, Birat Nursing Home, and Nobel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar. More than 22 people, including security personnel, were injured in the incident. One injured victim had previously died, bringing the total death toll to two. Police said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the clash is still underway.
