Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed SEBON Chairman, Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta, on Monday, following his Cabinet appointment on June 18 (Ashar 5). Post-ceremony, Minister Wagle directed Chairman Bhatta to strictly safeguard investor capital, ignore external temptations, and prioritize economic growth via robust capital mobilization. Wagle demanded structured reform plans categorized into daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly timelines, alongside a mandate to eliminate market panic caused by speculative rumors. Emphasizing a non-interventionist stance from the ministry, Wagle urged the new chairman to deliver tangible results over rhetoric, requesting mandatory weekly market briefings. In response, Chairman Bhatta pledged to utilize his expertise to protect retail investors, hit national economic goals, and execute pending regulatory recommendations to systematically develop the capital market.
