Agriculture and Tourism Drive 73% of Nepal's Total Foreign Investments
The Department of Industry has approved ₹47.61 billion in foreign direct investment commitments across 914 ventures in 11 months, with the simplified Automatic Route rapidly capturing small-scale projects.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments to Nepal climbed to ₹47.61 billion in the first 11 months of FY 2025/26. Out of 186 projects greenlit in the month of Jestha alone, an overwhelming 178 opted for the government’s digital Automatic Route. While the Automatic Route processed 711 projects worth ₹7.71 billion over the 11-month period, the traditional Approval Route handled the remaining ₹39.90 billion, showing that major infrastructure and heavy investments still undergo standard board evaluations. Small-scale projects dominated the volume, accounting for 894 out of 914 approved entries. In terms of sector-wise capital, Agriculture and Forestry led the pack by drawing a commanding 46% (₹22.08 billion) of the total capital, followed by Tourism at 27% (₹12.99 billion). The total pool of approved ventures is projected to generate 25,450 domestic jobs.
