Sudan Gurung Case: Government Sets Tight Deadline for Investigation Report

The Government of Nepal has initiated a formal inquiry into the financial and administrative conduct of former Home Minister Sudan Gurung. Following a Cabinet decision on May 11, a high-level probe committee has been established to investigate public allegations regarding undisclosed investments and potential conflicts of interest during his tenure. The committee, led by former High Court Judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari, is composed of technical and legal experts, including the Comptroller General and a Joint Attorney. Tasked with examining the legitimacy of Gurung's asset declarations and his links to various business entities, the panel has been granted a 15-day window to submit its findings to Prime Minister Balendra Shah. Gurung, a prominent youth leader and sitting MP from Gorkha-1, resigned on April 22 to facilitate an impartial investigation.
