Oli Questions Official Palace Massacre Narrative, Says Dipendra Was Not Responsible
Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that Crown Prince Dipendra was not responsible for the 2001 Narayanhiti Palace Massacre, calling the widely accepted account a fabricated narrative.
CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that Crown Prince Dipendra Shah was not responsible for the Narayanhiti Palace Massacre that wiped out King Birendra Shah's family on June 1, 2001 (Jestha 19, 2058 BS). Speaking at a party event in Chyasal on Friday, Oli argued that the widely circulated account blaming Dipendra for killing his family before taking his own life was a "ready-made story" spread globally without proper investigation. He also rejected claims linking the massacre to Dipendra's alleged failed love affair, describing them as part of a fabricated narrative. Stating that the truth behind the royal massacre has yet to be uncovered, Oli said it remains unclear who was actually responsible and questioned why international media accepted the official version without deeper scrutiny.
