NRB Directs Banks to Provide Rs. 100 Notes Through ATMs for Dashain
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has directed banks and financial institutions to make new Rs. 100 notes available through ATMs ahead of Dashain and other major festivals.
Following the NRB’s directive, some banks and financial institutions have already started distributing Rs. 100 notes through ATMs. According to NRB spokesperson Gurupasad Paudel, clean and fit currency notes have been made available through the NRB’s Thapathali office, provincial offices, and commercial banks from Ashwin 1. However, the central bank has reduced publicity around new-note distribution this year due to the significant loss of life and property caused by the Bhotekoshi flood. The NRB has also been gradually reducing the practice of issuing new notes during festivals over the past four to five years. As of Bhadra 31, around Rs. 7.94 trillion was in circulation, and the amount is expected to increase by approximately 8–10% during Dashain, Paudel said.
