Nepal Elected AIIB Vice Chair for Non-Regional Members

Nepal has been elected as Vice Chair for the non-regional member countries of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for a one-year term. The decision was taken during the 11th Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors in Doha, Qatar, where Ireland was also selected as Vice Chair for the non-regional group alongside Nepal. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle formally assumed the position on behalf of Nepal. Addressing a roundtable during the meeting, Wagle emphasized the importance of infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and technology for economic growth in developing countries. He also called for more flexible financing mechanisms tailored to lower-income countries and greater support for creating an environment conducive to private-sector investment.
