Modi Khola Flood Cuts Off Ghandruk Road, Tourists Stranded

Heavy rainfall has caused the Modi Khola to overflow, washing away part of the Nayapul–Birethanti–Ghandruk road, damaging homes and businesses, and disrupting travel to the Annapurna trekking region.

Modi Khola Flood Cuts Off Ghandruk Road, Tourists Stranded

Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding in the Modi Khola, causing widespread disruption in Kaski and Parbat districts. A section of the Nayapul–Birethanti–Ghandruk road near Seuli Bazaar, located between Wards 8 and 10 of Annapurna Rural Municipality, was washed away by floodwaters, completely cutting off road access. Continuous rain in Kimrung of Annapurna Rural Municipality–11 also triggered multiple landslides, further worsening conditions in the area. The flooding swept away the house and restaurant of local resident Deepil Gurung, while another restaurant owned by Jagan Pun suffered significant damage. Local officials have warned that several houses along the banks of the Modi Khola remain at high risk as the river continues to rise. The road closure has stranded hundreds of vehicles traveling to the popular tourist destinations of Ghandruk and Landruk, affecting both domestic and international trekkers heading to the Annapurna region. Police say the damaged road cannot be reopened immediately and have urged residents and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve and repair work can begin.
