Nepal achieved a record-breaking Rs 29.32 billion in electricity export earnings during FY 2082/83, driven by a 62.89% increase in power exports to India and Bangladesh.
Nepal recorded its highest-ever earnings from cross-border electricity trade in the fiscal year 2082/83, generating Rs 29.32 billion from electricity exports, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). During the year, Nepal exported 3.87 billion units (kWh) of electricity to India and Bangladesh through India's open market and bilateral power trade at an average price of Rs 7.56 per unit. Electricity export volume increased by 62.89% compared to the previous fiscal year, when Nepal exported 2.38 billion units and earned Rs 17.45 billion. The NEA attributed the record performance to higher electricity exports and lower imports, highlighting significant progress in Nepal's energy sector and its growing role as a regional power exporter.
