Finance Minister Wagle Rules Out Immediate Demonetization Plan
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has clarified that the government has no plans to introduce demonetization at present, saying the measure is neither an immediate need nor a priority.
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has ruled out any immediate plan by the government to demonetize banknotes, stating that the measure is not among the government’s current priorities. Speaking at a dialogue on citizens, policy, and leadership organized by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) at its Banasthali office, Wagle responded to questions from participants on whether demonetization could help address the country’s current economic challenges. He said the government had not considered such a move and did not see it as appropriate under the present circumstances. Referring to international experience, Wagle noted that countries that have implemented demonetization have not generally recorded particularly successful outcomes. He therefore emphasized that making such a decision hastily would not be prudent. During the program, the Finance Minister also addressed various public concerns and said the government was seriously focused on its upcoming policies and leadership priorities.
