Home Minister Orders Immediate Clearance of Encroached Land at Koshi Hospital

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has directed the local administration and security agencies to immediately clear the encroached land belonging to Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar, ordering the demolition of all illegal structures built on the government-owned property. The instruction came during his surprise inspection of the hospital on Sunday, accompanied by Health and Food Safety Minister Nisha Mehta, following reports that parts of the hospital's land had been illegally occupied and used for commercial purposes. Gurung stressed that encroachment of public land is a legal offense and warned that those responsible would face action, while directing the district administration to mobilize all necessary resources to reclaim the property. The inspection was conducted after a 15-day ultimatum issued by the Koshi Hospital administration for encroachers to vacate the premises expired without compliance. Describing the continued occupation as unfortunate, Minister Mehta said the illegal structures would be removed within a week and reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting public property and strengthening healthcare infrastructure. The government has stated that the local administration, security agencies, and hospital authorities will jointly launch an immediate operation to recover the land and ensure it is used exclusively for public health services.
