Students Protest LPG Shortage in Kathmandu
Nepal Students Union (NSU) activists staged a symbolic protest at Tri-Chandra Campus in Kathmandu, carrying empty LPG cylinders to highlight the ongoing cooking-gas shortage and its impact on students and the public.
Student leaders affiliated with the Nepal Students Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, staged a symbolic demonstration at Tri-Chandra Campus in Kathmandu on Tuesday by carrying empty LPG cylinders and placards. The protesters said the prolonged shortage of cooking gas has added to the difficulties faced by students and households, with consumers struggling to secure LPG and, in some cases, spending hours waiting in queues. Through the demonstration, the students accused the government of failing to address the supply crunch despite its earlier assurances of ending long queues for gas. They raised slogans including, “You promised to end queues, so why are people still lining up for gas?” and “Students need pens in their hands, not empty cylinders.” The protesters urged the government to immediately improve LPG supplies and take measures to reduce the impact of the shortage on students and the wider public. The continuing gas shortage has disrupted everyday life in Kathmandu and other parts of the country, increasing pressure on authorities to restore regular and reliable LPG distribution.
