Finance Minister Shuts Down Rumors of Secret 'Hit List' to Arrest Businessmen

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged industrialists and entrepreneurs not to be swayed by rumors suggesting that the government is planning a crackdown on the private sector. Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Friday, he clarified that there is no truth to the claims of the government targeting members of the business community.

"The government has not prepared any list to arrest or detain private sector individuals," Wagle stated. "Do not follow these rumors; you are our partners." He further emphasized that the private sector is a crucial stakeholder in the government's vision to transform Nepal into a $100 billion economy.

During his address, the Finance Minister outlined five key priorities for the government: good governance, economic revival, internal and external connectivity, social investment, and the expansion of soft power through tourism, culture, and history. He noted that the country is currently in a position to steer the 'ship' of the economy in a new direction and urged the business community to wait for the upcoming budget to see these changes.

Drawing a comparison with neighboring India, Wagle mentioned that several of Nepal's current economic indicators are similar to those of India when Prime Minister Narendra Modi first took office. He highlighted how India achieved massive growth over the last 12 years through political stability and dedicated efforts, suggesting that Nepal is now ready to follow a similar trajectory of progress.
