Kumari Bank Partners with German Institution to Advance Sustainable Banking
Kumari Bank has signed a strategic agreement with Germany's DSIK to strengthen green banking practices and promote sustainable finance in Nepal.
Kumari Bank Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) to promote sustainable banking and strengthen green finance practices in Nepal. The agreement, supported by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is part of a regional initiative aimed at advancing the social and ecological transformation of the financial sector across selected Asian countries. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Kumari Bank CEO Ram Chandra Khanal and DSIK Asia Division Head Dr. Ilonka Rühl-Stern. Under the two-phase collaboration, DSIK will provide technical expertise, including tools such as the ESG Risk Radar and Sustainable Finance Compass, while also supporting green enterprise development and SME capacity-building through the DISK Business Game program. Kumari Bank said the partnership marks a significant step toward institutionalizing sustainable banking practices and aligning its operations with international standards and Nepal's Green Finance Taxonomy. With a nationwide network of 286 branches, 303 ATMs, 40 extension counters, 41 branchless banking units, and more than 1,100 POS terminals, the bank aims to expand the impact of the initiative across the country and contribute to Nepal's sustainable economic growth and climate-resilient future.
