NHRC Calls for Investigation Into Genji Protest Organizers, Including Sudhan Gurung
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended an investigation into the organizers of the Genji protest, including ‘Hami Nepal’ chairperson and Member of Parliament Sudhan Gurung. The recommendation follows findings that the protest, initially permitted as a peaceful demonstration, turned violent and resulted in vandalism during events held on Bhadra 23 and 24.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the government to carry out a further investigation into the organizers of the Genji protest, including the chairperson of the ‘Hami Nepal’ organization and Member of Parliament Sudhan Gurung. The recommendation comes after the commission concluded that although the protest was initially approved as a peaceful demonstration, it later escalated into violence and vandalism during the events held on Bhadra 23 and 24. The commission noted that the organizers failed to properly manage the gathering and prevent infiltration, which ultimately led to the situation going out of control and causing damage to public and private property. It has recommended a detailed micro-level investigation into several individuals linked to the protest, stressing the need to ensure greater accountability in the organization of future public demonstrations.
