Rasuwa Flood Damage Recovery Estimated at Nearly USD 4 Billion

The reconstruction of infrastructure and communities severely damaged by floods and landslides in Rasuwa is estimated to cost nearly USD 4 billion, according to a preliminary assessment. Arjun Jung Thapa, a member of the National Planning Commission and an infrastructure expert, said the initial estimate was prepared based on a preliminary study conducted by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). A team led by a joint secretary visited the affected areas and collected details of the damage. The assessment covers multiple sectors, including agriculture, schools, colleges, hydropower projects, roads and other physical infrastructure. Thapa said the team has already presented its preliminary findings and is currently working to finalize the report by incorporating additional details and damage assessments. The detailed reconstruction report is expected to be made public within the next few days through a press conference or the authority’s official website.
