National Security Council Reviews Security, Calls for Stronger Social Harmony

Nepal's National Security Council (NSC), chaired by Prime Minister and Council Chair Balen Shah, held its 43rd meeting on Thursday to review the country's overall security situation and discuss measures to strengthen social harmony and national unity. The meeting, held at Singha Durbar, decided to enhance coordination among security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective maintenance of peace, security, and social cohesion across the country. The council also conducted a detailed review of the recent unrest in Sunsari, which occurred on Shrawan 10, and was briefed that the situation is gradually returning to normal through the joint efforts of political parties, local stakeholders, and security agencies. According to the statement issued after the meeting, the government will further strengthen coordination among security institutions to prevent similar incidents in the future while promoting social harmony and national unity. The council also decided to improve inter-agency coordination for timely search, rescue, and relief operations in response to monsoon-related disasters. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and Defense Minister Balen Shah, Home Minister Sudan Gurung, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Chief Secretary Govinda Karki, and Chief of Army Staff Ashok Sigdel.
