Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has announced five special economic packages, including a 10–12 point policy reform plan for the sluggish capital market expected to be introduced within a week.
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said the government is preparing five special packages aimed at revitalizing Nepal’s economy and accelerating economic activity. Speaking at the 28th Annual General Meeting of the Society of Economic Journalists–Nepal (SEJON), Wagle said the government is moving forward with measures covering economic recovery, capital market reform, private-sector revival, financial compliance and post-flood reconstruction. Under the first package, the government is working on recovery and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating Bhotekoshi floods. Wagle said studies have already been conducted to identify the support and rehabilitation needs of affected businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals. The second package focuses on addressing the sluggish capital market. According to Wagle, the government is preparing to introduce a 10–12 point policy reform plan within one week to address the challenges facing the stock market and help revive market activity. The third package will focus on promoting and revitalizing the private sector, with the government preparing to announce a special package for businesses in the near future. Under the fourth package, the government is prioritizing efforts to help Nepal exit the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list and strengthen the country’s financial compliance framework. The fifth package will focus on mobilizing international financial resources for the reconstruction of areas damaged by the Bhotekoshi floods. Wagle said the government is working to bring in and effectively manage international funds for reconstruction and recovery. The Finance Minister said these initiatives are part of the government’s broader effort to restore economic momentum and strengthen confidence across the private and financial sectors.
