Government Rolls Back Public Transport Fares by 2% as Energy Pressures Ease
Following a 5% hike earlier this year, regulatory authorities readjust long-distance passenger fares downward to match stabilizing fuel markets.
According to the Department of Transport Management, this downward tariff revision was directly triggered by the recent price corrections made by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). The state-owned fuel monopolist recently slashed retail prices by Rs 20 per liter for petrol and Rs 30 per liter for both diesel and kerosene. Under the automated fuel-transport pricing mechanism, any significant fluctuation in fuel prices legally requires a proportional adjustment in public transport tariffs.
