Janakpur to Shine with Massive 2 Billion NPR Investment: Madhesh Province’s First-Ever 5-Star Hotel Underway!
Former NRNA Vice-President Rameshwar Shah and a group of prominent investors have launched a 2 billion NPR project to build Janakpur’s first five-star luxury hotel. The project aims to boost religious tourism and local employment in Madhesh Province over the next three years.
Rameshwar Shah, the former Vice-President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and operator of Royal Tulip Resort in Chitwan, has begun the construction of Janakpurdham’s first five-star hotel with an investment of 2 billion NPR. The foundation stone (Bhumi Pujan) for the project, under Mithila Hospitality, was laid by the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Krishna Prasad Yadav, during a grand ceremony on May 3, 2026 (Baisakh 21, 2083 BS).
Spanning 2.5 bighas of land, the hotel will have a total built-up area of 120,000 square feet. It will feature 124 rooms, including eight luxury suites, and a total of 372 beds. The construction is scheduled to be completed within three years, with the hotel expected to begin operations by April 2029 (Baisakh 2086 BS). Other key investors in the project include former banker Gyanendra Prasad Dhungana and businessmen Kazi Lama, Sudip Kumar Chaudhary, and Udaykant Jha.
The hotel will be equipped with modern amenities such as international-standard restaurants, a casino, a rooftop pool bar, a spa, a health club, a tennis court, and an amphitheater. Once operational, the hotel is expected to provide direct employment to 150 people and provide high-quality accommodation for pilgrims visiting the Janaki Temple and the Ramayana Circuit. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister Kanish Patel, Member of Parliament Manish Jha, and NRNA founder Dr. Upendra Mahato. With the completion of this project, Janakpur will become the first city in Madhesh Province to offer five-star hospitality services.
