Prithvi Highway Blocked: Krishnabhir Road May Take 10–15 Days to Reopen

The Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway has been blocked after the increased flow of the Trishuli River, triggered by the massive Bhotekoshi flood, eroded the lower section of the road. The Department of Roads has mobilized technical and geological experts and is working to reopen the highway within 10 to 15 days. Engineers have proposed removing unstable material from the upper section and constructing a single-lane diversion to restore traffic as quickly as possible. The affected area is estimated to be around 100 meters long and 10–15 meters high, requiring the removal of thousands of cubic meters of debris. Three to four heavy machines may be deployed to speed up the work. Authorities are also considering measures such as geobags, gabion nets and net-wrapped boulders to control riverbank erosion and protect the road from further damage. In the long term, the Department of Roads has stressed the need for more disaster-resilient infrastructure, including elevated roads, alternative routes, stronger bridges and tunnels where necessary.
