Customers seeking fresh banknotes for Dashain have reported difficulties exchanging money at several commercial bank branches, despite official information indicating that the service would be available through different banks. As Dashain approaches, customers across Nepal have expressed frustration over difficulties exchanging old banknotes for fresh currency at various bank branches. Although official announcements indicated that customers could obtain new notes through different banks, many have reported facing delays, limited availability, and inconsistent service while trying to access the facility. According to one customer, visits to nearby branches of Nepal Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank, and several private commercial banks proved unsuccessful. Some branches reportedly said that fresh banknotes had not yet arrived, while others had received only limited quantities that were already distributed. In some cases, customers were asked to return on a specified date, leaving them unable to exchange their money when they initially visited. Meanwhile, Nepal Rastra Bank’s office in Thapathali has reportedly been providing a comparatively smooth and efficient service. One customer said that after learning from a friend that fresh notes could be exchanged conveniently at the office, including by senior citizens without having to wait in long queues, they decided to visit the location. The customer reported completing the exchange within just five minutes. Contrasting the experience with the difficulties encountered at commercial bank branches, the customer praised Nepal Rastra Bank’s service management and efficient procedures. The experience was cited as an example of how proper planning, effective coordination, and streamlined processes can improve public service delivery. The customer also emphasized that similar approaches should be adopted by other public and private institutions to make essential services more accessible and convenient, particularly during major festivals when demand increases significantly. Expressing appreciation for the efficient handling of fresh banknote exchanges, the customer thanked Nepal Rastra Bank and the relevant authorities for facilitating the service. The differing experiences highlight the importance of adequate currency distribution, timely communication, and effective service management during the festive season. As demand for fresh banknotes rises ahead of Dashain, customers are hoping that banks will improve availability and coordination to ensure a more convenient exchange process.
