Home Minister Sudan Gurung has urged residents living along the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district to move to safer locations immediately as rising floodwaters threaten riverside settlements. Several houses in Ghattekhola have been inundated, while a bridge connecting Nyakchet and Philim Bazaar has reportedly been swept away.
Home Minister Sudan Gurung has called on residents living along the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district to remain on high alert and evacuate to safer locations as the river’s water level continues to rise following severe flooding. In a Facebook post, Gurung specifically urged people living in Sirdibas, Jagat, Salleri, Kholabesi, Machhakhola, Soti, Arkhet, and Arughat to prioritize their safety and move away from vulnerable riverside areas. The warning comes amid concerns over the increasing river flow and the potential for further flooding in nearby settlements. Gurung also expressed concern over reports that a bridge connecting Nyakchet and Philim Bazaar in Ward No. 3 of Chumnubri Rural Municipality had been washed away by the floodwaters. The reported destruction of the bridge could disrupt transportation and make access to affected communities more difficult. Meanwhile, muddy floodwater has entered several houses in the Ghattekhola area, causing concern among local residents as the river continues to swell. The rising water level has heightened fears of further damage to homes, infrastructure, and settlements along the riverbanks. Authorities have urged residents in potentially affected areas to follow official warnings, avoid approaching the river, and relocate to safer ground without delay. The situation remains concerning as continued increases in water flow could pose additional risks to downstream communities.
