Anthropic Files for IPO, Eyes Potential $100 Billion Fundraising
Anthropic, the developer of Claude AI, has filed for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the United States, seeking a Nasdaq listing under the ticker symbol “ANT.” Reports suggest the offering could raise up to $100 billion at a valuation of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, potentially setting a new record for the world’s largest IPO.
Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind Claude AI, has officially filed for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the United States, marking a major step toward becoming a publicly traded company. The company submitted its registration statement on October 26, 2026, and plans to list its shares on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol “ANT.” The listing could take place as early as November, although the final date has not been confirmed. According to its IPO filing, Anthropic generated revenue of approximately $16.3 billion during the first six months of 2026, compared with $1.2 billion in the same period last year. However, the company reported a net loss of $80.7 billion, significantly higher than the $13 billion loss recorded in the first half of 2025. Much of the reported loss stemmed from non-cash accounting adjustments related to the valuation of convertible notes and other financing instruments, rather than operating expenses alone. Anthropic reported an operating loss of $693 million for the first half of 2026. The prospectus also highlights several risks associated with the company’s business model and the development of advanced AI systems. Anthropic has warned about potential safety risks, including the possibility that advanced AI systems could resist human attempts to shut them down. The company also faces customer concentration risks, with its five largest customers reportedly accounting for approximately one-quarter of its revenue during the first nine months of 2026, although no single customer contributed more than 10%. Anthropic’s proposed IPO has attracted considerable attention because of its potential size. Media reports suggest the company could seek a valuation of between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion and raise as much as $100 billion. However, these figures remain estimates, as Anthropic has not yet announced its final offering size, share price or target valuation. Comparison With SpaceX’s IPO Anthropic’s potential offering could surpass SpaceX’s reported IPO fundraising of approximately $86 billion in June 2026. If Anthropic raises $100 billion, it would exceed that amount by around $14 billion, potentially making it the largest IPO in financial market history. However, the comparison remains speculative until Anthropic announces its final offering details. The proposed listing is expected to draw significant investor attention as financial markets assess the rapid growth of generative AI alongside the substantial costs and risks associated with developing advanced AI technology.
