    Flood Disaster Claims 1,287 Lives as Search and Rescue Continues

    The Rasuwa flood disaster has resulted in 1,287 recovered bodies, while more than 5,000 people remain missing and thousands have been injured or rescued.

    The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has reported that 1,287 bodies have been recovered following the devastating floods and related disasters in the Rasuwa region. Chitwan recorded the highest number of recovered bodies at 359, followed by Nawalparasi East with 219, Nawalparasi West with 212, Nuwakot with 184 and Rasuwa with 140. Only 96 of the recovered bodies have been identified so far. The disaster has also left 5,397 people injured, while security agencies have rescued 13,093 people to safer locations. A total of 21,421 security personnel have been deployed nationwide for rescue and disaster management operations. Meanwhile, 5,083 people remain missing, including 583 foreign nationals. The disaster has damaged thousands of private homes, government buildings, schools, health facilities, roads and bridges. Preliminary estimates put the total economic damage and loss at Rs. 387.54 billion, with approximately Rs. 7.15 billion required for early recovery. Relief materials continue to be transported to affected districts, while telecommunications and other essential services are gradually being restored.
