SEBON Publishes Study on Private Equity and Venture Capital Sector for Public Consultation
The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has published a comprehensive study on the Private Equity and Venture Capital (PEVC) sector to strengthen long-term capital mobilization, promote entrepreneurship, and support sustainable development of Nepal’s capital market.
The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has completed and published a comprehensive study on the Private Equity and Venture Capital (PEVC) sector, inviting feedback from stakeholders on proposed regulatory and policy reforms. The study was prepared as part of the implementation of the Government’s Annual Budget for Fiscal Year 2083/84, the Ministry of Finance’s Capital Market Strengthening and Revival Action Plan 2083, and SEBON’s capital market policy initiatives. It emphasizes that PEVC should be developed as a key component of Nepal’s broader economic development framework, supporting entrepreneurship, innovation, job creation, foreign capital mobilization, and the expansion of the public capital market. Drawing on international practices, the study identifies risk-based regulation, investor protection, corporate governance, transparency, asset protection, qualified investor classification, and digital supervision as key areas for reform. SEBON expects stakeholder feedback to help refine the proposed framework and address existing challenges in the sector. The board believes that implementing the study’s recommendations will help direct capital toward productive businesses, improve access to long-term financing for emerging enterprises, and strengthen Nepal’s PEVC ecosystem.
