Rasuwa Flood: 903 Bodies Recovered, Over 4,200 Still Missing

The devastating flood triggered by the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa has caused a major humanitarian crisis, with 903 bodies recovered as of 9 AM on Bhadra 15, 2083, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. The recovered bodies have been found across several districts. The highest number was reported in Chitwan with 272 bodies, followed by Nawalparasi East with 207, Nawalparasi West with 151, Nuwakot with 95, Gorkha with 62, Dhading with 55, Tanahun with 37 and Rasuwa with 24. Authorities said some recovered remains consist only of body parts, while unidentified bodies have been kept at 21 different hospitals. A total of 267 people have been injured, of whom 156 have already been discharged following treatment. Six specialized surgical medical teams have been deployed to provide medical assistance in affected areas. Meanwhile, 4,247 people remain unaccounted for, including 865 from Rasuwa, 1,558 from Nuwakot, 933 workers associated with hydropower projects and 592 foreign nationals. Security personnel and employees from customs and immigration offices are also among those reported missing. The government has mobilized 20,819 security personnel, including 7,894 from Nepal Police, 8,722 from the Nepali Army and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force. Nepali Army helicopters have conducted 411 rescue flights, helping evacuate 10,451 people, including both Nepali and foreign nationals. The government has also accelerated relief distribution. Rasuwa and Nuwakot have each received Rs. 10 million, while Dhading has received Rs. 5 million in immediate cash relief. A total of Rs. 67.5 million has also been allocated to 15 affected local governments. Relief materials are being transported through both land and air routes. Authorities have dispatched food and non-food supplies using trucks and Bolero vehicles, along with generators, medicines and medical equipment.
