Nepal’s Flood Relief Fund Sets New Record with Rs. 9.5 Billion in Support

Financial support collected for the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund following the devastating floods in Rasuwa and along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers has reached a historic level. According to the latest data published through the government’s rescue request portal, the fund has received approximately Rs. 9.5 billion, including cash deposits, foreign currency contributions and new commitments. The amount includes around Rs. 7.89 billion in cash and US$6.14 million, along with pledged assistance. An additional Rs. 360 million is being collected through salary contributions from federal government employees. Provincial governments are also continuing to pledge support, while immediate relief funds have already been released to Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. The current voluntary collection has surpassed the Rs. 6.75 billion in voluntary cash assistance raised through the Prime Minister’s Fund following the devastating 2015 earthquake. The unprecedented response has been attributed to increased public awareness, easier digital payment systems and the government’s digital relief portal. The funds are expected to support emergency relief, rehabilitation, reconstruction of damaged infrastructure and permanent housing for displaced families.
