The government has approved Prime Minister Balen Shah’s visit to New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly, alongside several major administrative and policy decisions.

The government has approved the visit of a Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister Balen Shah to New York to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to take place from September 6 to 10. The decision was announced by Education Minister Sasmita Pokharel following the Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet also approved the drafting of a bill aimed at controlling unfair lending practices, including meter-beyaj (exorbitant interest). The move is intended to address exploitative lending practices and provide greater protection to borrowers. In another decision, the government approved a list of 17,438 economically poor households from 27 local levels across Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Saptari and Dang. The Cabinet also appointed Dr. Hariprasad Lamsal as chairperson of the Teacher Service Commission, with Ram Sharan Sapkota and Bishnu Ghimire (Rimal) appointed as members. On the administrative front, Binod Bahadur Kunwar and Uttar Kumar Khatri were promoted to secretary and appointed as chief secretaries of Lumbini Province and Sudurpaschim Province, respectively.
