Flash Flood Ravages Gorkha’s Chum Nubri, Sweeps Away 35 Houses

A sudden flash flood in the Budhi Gandaki River has caused significant damage in Chum Nubri Rural Municipality of Gorkha district after a landslide in the Chekampar area reportedly blocked the river, while a flash flood in Syarkhola, Chumchet, further increased the water flow. The disaster has swept away approximately 35 houses across several locations and caused extensive damage to Machhikhola Bazaar. A suspension bridge connecting the area to Kerauja was also washed away, disrupting transportation and isolating local communities. Following the incident, rescue operations have been intensified, with a team led by Home Minister Sudan Gurung and security personnel deployed to the affected areas. Helicopters have also been mobilized to support rescue efforts. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the Flood Forecasting Division have warned that floodwaters could travel downstream toward the Trishuli confluence, posing a potential threat to riverside settlements. With river levels continuing to fluctuate, residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain highly alert and move to safer locations as necessary to minimize further casualties and property damage.
