High Alert in Rasuwa as Risk of Another Flood in Bhotekoshi Rises

Authorities have urged people to remain highly alert as a natural dam formed upstream of the Bhotekoshi River could burst at any time, potentially triggering another major flood.

High Alert in Rasuwa as Risk of Another Flood in Bhotekoshi Rises

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged heightened vigilance in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi area amid the risk of another flood. According to the authority, Chinese officials have warned that a nearly seven-meter-high natural dam formed upstream after water was blocked following a glacial lake outburst could collapse at any time. If the dam breaks, a major flood could occur downstream. Authorities have urged people to stay away from riverbanks and coastal areas, while security personnel, volunteers and others involved in rescue and relief operations have been asked to exercise extra caution.
