NEA Issues Weather Alert as Heavy Rainfall Threatens Power Infrastructure
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has urged the public to remain alert as moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast in various parts of the country on Kartik 13 and 14, with potential risks of floods, landslides, lightning and power disruptions.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has urged the public to exercise caution as several parts of the country are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall on October 29 and 30, 2026 (Kartik 13 and 14). According to a special weather bulletin issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology on October 26 (Kartik 9), a powerful cyclone developing over the ocean could influence weather conditions in Nepal, bringing rainfall and snowfall to different parts of the country. The adverse weather conditions may increase the risk of floods, landslides, lightning strikes, strong winds and inundation. The authority warned that severe weather could damage electricity poles, transmission wires, transformers and other power infrastructure, potentially disrupting electricity services in affected areas. To minimize the impact, NEA has placed staff at relevant offices on standby to protect electrical infrastructure and carry out immediate repairs if power supply is interrupted. The authority said preparations are underway to restore electricity services as quickly as possible in the event of damage. NEA has advised the public to assess potential weather-related risks, stay in safe locations and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. Consumers have also been urged to use electrical appliances carefully and follow updates from official sources. The authority further requested consumers to contact their respective electricity distribution centres or help desks if they experience power outages or notice damage to electrical infrastructure. NEA has emphasized the importance of public awareness and precautionary measures to reduce the risks associated with the expected adverse weather conditions.
