Over 300,000 People Leave Kathmandu Valley to Celebrate Dashain

The annual Dashain homecoming rush has begun across Nepal, with thousands of people leaving Kathmandu to celebrate the festival with their families. The movement gained momentum after the government opened advance ticket bookings for passengers planning to travel home for Dashain. According to transport entrepreneurs, more than 300,000 people have already left Kathmandu to celebrate the festival. Residents who have been living in the capital for employment, education, and other professional or personal commitments are gradually returning to their hometowns and villages to spend the festive season with their loved ones. The number of passengers departing from Kathmandu has been increasing, with growing crowds at major transportation hubs, including Gongabu Bus Park and other bus terminals across the capital. The annual migration reflects the tradition of returning home during Dashain, when families reunite to celebrate the festival together.
