SEBON Pushes Market Innovation, Regulatory Reforms and New Trading Products

The Securities Board of Nepal is stepping up efforts to modernize the country’s capital market by introducing new products, trading mechanisms and regulatory guidelines. SEBON Chairman Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatt said new financial instruments are necessary to increase market participation and create greater investor interest. He said the regulator will establish a clearer policy framework for cash and credit trading, while margin trading is expected to provide a more structured alternative to existing credit-based transactions. SEBON is also preparing guidelines focused on investor protection, risk-based regulation and institutional governance, with reforms planned for both primary and secondary markets. At the same time, market participants have urged the government and regulator to update decades-old securities laws and introduce Auto-EDIS to improve operational efficiency. Stakeholders stressed that investor confidence remains critical to sustainable market growth. The interaction, attended by SEBON’s full management team and representatives from more than 80 brokerage companies, also featured a proposed roadmap for capital-market development and is expected to support greater regulatory clarity in the coming days.
